Beyond the three main systems sit the specialty problems, static control, chemical containment, and the joint and surface damage that makes a warehouse floor miserable to work on.
How do you choose a resinous flooring system?
Start with conditions, not products. List the traffic type and weight, the chemicals the floor will see and at what strength, the temperature swings, the moisture in the slab, the downtime you can actually give up, and how the floor gets cleaned. Then match the system build, primer, body coats, topcoat, and total thickness, to those conditions. Choosing by price per square foot alone, without comparing what is under the finish, is how floors fail early.
What is ESD flooring, and when is it required?
ESD flooring safely drains static charges from people and equipment into the ground, protecting sensitive electronics from discharges you cannot even feel. It is an engineered system with specified electrical resistance ranges, and it has to be tested after installation to mean anything. Polished concrete by itself is not an ESD system, whatever its sheen. If a specification or a customer audit requires static control, treat it as its own system decision with documentation, not as a finish option.
When does a floor need joint and spall repair instead of a new surface?
Broken control joint shoulders and spalled patches are geometry problems. They rock forklifts, chew up tires and wheels, and shake loads on every pass, and coating over them fixes none of that. The repair is to rebuild the joint edges and fill them with materials rated for hard wheel traffic, restoring a smooth, hard line for wheels to cross. Only after the joints and surface damage are sound does it make sense to decide whether the floor also needs a coating or a polish.
What flooring do food processing plants actually need?
There is no government list of approved flooring products for food plants. USDA and FDA rules require performance instead: floors that are durable, impervious to moisture, smooth and easy to clean, sloped to drain instead of ponding water, and kept in good repair.

ESD Flooring
Facilities that handle sensitive electronics need floors that control static, covered in the ESD flooring guide.
